Hopefully you’ll have time to see all the main attractions and experience life in India, but if your time is limited then here are some of the highlights of the best things you should definitely see and do during your holiday to India.

If you enjoy trying new flavours and dishes, then you’ll love exploring the different tastes of India food. India is a great place to visit if you are a vegetarian, or even a vegan – around 30 percent of India’s population are vegetarians. There are plenty of vegetable curries to choose from, the only problem may be properly communicating your needs, so it may be a good idea to learn a few phrases in advance.

Visit Famous Monuments

India has 5,000 years of history and there were several kingdoms that ruled the country throughout this time. You can visit Delhi to see the Red Fort, Lotus Temple, Qutub Minar and the India Gate. You can travel from Delhi to Agra to visit the wonder of the world the Taj Mahal and Fatehpur Sikri. If you go to the state of Rajasthan you can visit several palaces and fortresses in Jaipur, Udaipur and Jaisalmer. If you travel south of India you can see the Mysore Palace and travel east to Odisha to see the Konark Sun Temple. You can travel to the Ajanta Caves in Maharashtra which has beautiful painting carved on its walls. You can travel to Hampi in the south to see the ruins of various temples.

Visit Kerala’s Back Waters

Kerala state is in the southwest part of India and is known for its backwaters that stretch upto 1500kms of waterways fed by 38 rivers. You can rent houseboats to travel through these backwaters and a few popular places to do so are Alappuzha, Kumarakom, Kavvayi and Alumkadavu. You can rent boats that have their own kitchen, western toilets and dining areas. You will be able to see turtles, otters and cranes. You will travel through tranquil waters, lakes, islands and green lands.

Spend Time in Jaipur

If you love opulence, then take a luxurious tour of Jaipur, otherwise known as known as the pink city and soak up the splendour of the palaces, fortresses, lakes and temples. You can visit the Govind Dev Ji, Jagat Shrimoni, Shila Devi, Galtaji Birla and Shri Kali Temple. You will be able to see the spectacular architecture and beautiful carvings on these temples. If you love elephants then visit Elefantastic which is a conservation centre for elephants who have been freed from hard labour. A few other places to visit in Jaipur are the Amer Fort, Jantar Mantar, Hawa Mahal. Do some shopping at the markets of Jaipur especially Tripolia, Kishanpole and Bapu Bazaar.

Drink Tea in Darjeeling

Darjeeling is a hill station filled with stunning views of mountains, lakes and forests. You can visit Mirik to see monasteries, lakes and gardens. The Tiger Hill has the highest railway track in the Darjeeling Himalyan ranges. You can visit the Padmaja Naidu Himalayan Zoological Park which house animals such as snow leopards and red pandas. Darjeeling is popular for its Darjeeling tea and you can visit the Darjeeling Mall which is a public square to relax and drink tea. The Senchal Lake is another location to visit along with Gangamaya Park, Observatory Hill View Point and Kitam Bird Sanctuary.
